Don’t Give Up On Your Dreams.

If we did all the things we are capable of doing ,we will literally astound ourselves-Thomas A.Edison

I am celebrating a milestone with this post because I have been able to stay true to writing an article per week against all odds. At first It felt like an impossible mission.(I think that was why I quit in the first instance). Now it is a different story. why? because I am learning not to abandon my dreams and passion for any reason.

Have you ever been in a situation where you felt there was more to this life than what is in front of you? Have you ever felt that you have the capacity to do more than you are doing now? And just seem as if you could’nt find a headway? No path in front of you and no roadmap. I have been there and I tell you,This is the point where true faith begins.IMG_20150820_230604

In the greater part of my growing years,I have been known for the ‘SING IT’ aspect of my divine assignment-Music.As an award-wining recording artiste I have been privy to stand on various platforms locally and Internationally,I have also had the privilege of meeting people, forming new relationships. It is really fulfilling,it does not go without saying that this comes with share of Challenges.God’s grace is ever sufficient.

Is there a problem?Yes there is- Somehow I have never been satisfied.I have always felt I could do more than just make music because I know I have been blessed beyond the music people have come to know me for. As long as I can remember ,I have been writing, not just writing songs, but many other things-poems,quotes,essays.Let me add here that my life’s mission is summed up in these categories,(Sing it,Say it,Write it). The wise King Solomon said,

“There is a time for everything and a season for every activity under the heavens:

For a very long time now I thought that the other areas of my passion will never materialise  because I felt that the “other” talents will be neglected. This dilemma is common among people who are multitalented and versatile in which you know you are capable of many things and even when you try your hands on them, you find out that you excel. The challenge now becomes: What is it I really want to do? Which one of these many talents should I focus on.I think our life is here for us to try something.I am put in this situation of being a Singer, Writer(I think i can call myself ), and a Speaker (Hopefully someday soon). All of this related together to awaken other people’s creativity.

One of the difficulties of dreamers is the fear that the dream will never happen. That’s a lie! Your dreams will come true,no matter how long it takes. While you are still on the journey, know that everything is working out for your good, because I am well aware that all creative people have multiple talents and they struggle most of time with when and how the talents will be expressed,No matter where you are now,or what you are doing.Let me assure you that no experience is wasted and that every experience in your life is hear to teach you something so you can teach others along the way.

David, who later became king of Israel in the bible days, was a shepherd boy at a tendar age,as time unfolded to him in his journey all other talents found expressions,  he went from being a Shepherd to a Fighter,Musician and then became King. There is something worthy of note here-Some gifts manifest in little situations which test us to let us know if we are ready for the big stage. As a little shepherd boy,David had to protect his father’s flock from deadly Animals. The experience with Bears and Lions prepared him to face the Giant! thus translating him from the shepherd boy to the enviable fighter and ultimately to Kingship.

I have come to realize that the way you deal with that”little gifts” determines how far you will progress . How are you using your little talent?Do you see a larger picture? Gone are the days of Jack of all trades and master of none.God has deposited virtues, abilities, and talents in all of us to maximize and help others with. You can be a jack of all trades and still be master at each one per time as David was because there is no limitation to what you can become provided you apply yourself.

Remember the parable of talents, the more you put to use your gifts, the better you become at it,and the more  other related talents will begin to find expression in you with time. Dont give up on your dreams.Do things, paint, write, sing, dance, talk, take a course, whatever it is, express yourself and make life possible for others around you.

You are a manager of the gifts God has given to you, they may be great or small in your eyes, but for God to give them to you simply means they matter to God. I encourage you to follow every dream in your heart, whether single talent or multiples talents,  go for it,Because you have the capacities to be everything God has designed you to be.

Every Accomplishment starts with a Decision.

Every accomplishment in life starts with a decision. From the simple ones like what to wear, what to eat,to the more challenging ones like, which university to attend, making a business decision ,choosing a life partner. The list goes on and one.Because we are faced with so much decision making  on a daily basis,it becomes very important to make rational decisions for our ultimate good and the good of others.

options #2

Decision making is regarded as the cognitive process resulting in the selection of a belief or a course of action among several alternative possibilities-In otherwords the act of thinking of alternative things and choosing between them. Every decision making process produces a final choice that may or may not prompt an action.

Biggest Decision I had to make (In my Mid 20’s).

The biggest decision I had to make was forfeiting  my professional career as an Engineer, to pursue my passion in music. I have faced some other conflicting situations after then, but that singular action was a major turning point as regards my life’s purpose.Could I not have pursued my passion and calling in Music  and still practice as an Electrical Engineer? Maybe I would have if I knew what I know today!

The option of pursuing my life’s passion straight on,gave me the liberty to explore and be my own boss(I have never liked a nine-to-five job). Even though practicing as an Electrical Engineer could have given me some sort of financial leverage back then. The option of following my lifelong passion paid off in terms of my fulfilment.

Every time and in every way we  find a need to choose between many options and alternatives of life. Deciding which option or options to take becomes very difficult.There are  factors that could be responsible for that,which includes;

*Trapped feeling”- This feeling is often experienced mostly in relationships or business-we feel we have invested  so much into such ventures and feel obliged to go on,even at the risk of huge losses. There are quite a number of people out there who are in toxic relationships and for the fear of being alone, they are stuck in such  situations, others are involve in ventures that is choking them but for the fear of being jobless,or what people will say, are trapped in what they hate.

*Fear of losses-Decision making is much more difficult when it involves a painful choice.Sometimes the right course of action will hurt in some way. I remember when I had to make a choice either to continue in a particular relationship or to let it go,deciding to let go was heartbreaking especially because the person involve was much more than a friend. It was becoming a toxic relationship, which had to end.

Decisions are an act of the will, and they are always influence by the mind, emotions or both. The decisions we make in life does not only affect us alone but other people around us.As I flip through the pages of scriptures and history I am reminded of Individuals and people who affected kingdoms,Nations,Ordinary people who took territories, captured cities, and became great models for family, and others who became destructive just by  the act of making decisions.

Factors to consider when making decision in any given situation.

At every given time in one’s life, making decisions are inevitable, but most importantly acting on them position you for accomplishment  and achievement in any area of life. I have come to realise,as a result of the many decisions I have made,(the good, the bad,and the ugly), that there are  factors to consider in order to accomplish any goal yourself and for the greater good of all.

*Identify a problem/opportunity-Good decision making is an essential skill of life, and brilliant opportunities are often “spotted” in any decision making process.

*Gather information-Get all the necessary information.

*Analyse the situation-By weighing all the possibilities available to you as regards the situation.

*Develop options/alternatives.

*Evaluate your alterntives-which of them will best achieve your objectives

*Select the best alternative -Every decision will involve some level of sacrifice and risk taking.

*Review your decision.Ask yourself  questions like (a). will it make me happy?(b). will it bring me closer to ideal life’s vision?.(c) If I don’t do this will i regret it in future?

If you re able to answer yes to 2 of the questions ,I believe you are on the right path. It is always better to do what you are not sure of,and watch how things play out, than to avoid doing it and live in “should have, would have, could have”!.

*Act on your decision-Put a plan in place to implement your decision and take action.
Most of the time, great accomplishment never allign to popular opinion.Whatever decision you have to make today, that will help you become your ideal person, and also help others,go ahead and make it. It may not look like much at the initial stage, but it will pay off in the at the end of the day.

To your accomplishment!

Distorted Vision,Restricted Movement.

IMG-20150810-WA0004Every man was born with the potential to live an extraordinary life. That life can only be realised when you become clear about what your life’s vision is all about. when you become aware of God’s purpose and vision for your life, then and only then, will you begin to experience CHANGE.

Why am I not living the extraordinary life? Do  I really know my life’s purpose? Is there a vision for my life? These could some of the questions you have been asking yourself. In as much as I do not consider myself as one who knows all the answers,I have found myself asking these same questions over and over again. In the quest to know exactly why I was placed on this side of eternity, I have discovered that there are so many reasons, but I am going to emphasis on one or two with this post.

Many times in the journey of life and fulfillment of purpose, we are faced with distractions which tend to hold us  as”Hostages”. These distractions happen when one is not clear about what to do with life. Here is a  little story to illustrate my point;

The class is in session, and here I am,in the midst of professionals,Ceo,and business owners.I knew it was going to be an exciting session.knowing I was not only one in this quest for change. We introduced ourselves and then the teacher, handed each one of us a pair of medicated glasses and told us to put them on. My reaction was,“put them on?”,I have never worn a medicated glasses in my life.I became a little apprehensive, but since it was an Instruction given by the “Teacher”.

Now with the glasses on, other class members did likewise, then the teacher gave the next instruction,”walk around the class and then walk back to your seats. By this time I became agitated and more anxious, because I couldn’t see clearly, having taken a few steps I felt like falling ,I was not balanced,I was uncomfortable as if that was not enough, I began to feel a straining in my eyes.I was not the only one in this predicament, all the others felt the same thing. At this point, we all managed to get back to our seats, removed the glasses, then the teacher told us that what just happened was called,“The vision experiment”.

The objective of the exercise was to point out to everyone in that class, the need for clarity. One after the other,The teacher asked that we share our experience with the “vision experiment”.Each of us had a similar experience, from the feeling of apprehension, anxiety, frustration, to blurry vision, straining eyes and being unbalanced while walking. What caused all these negative feelings? *The unanimous answer was, “wearing a wrong prescription of glasses”

There and then, I just said,”Distorted vision, restricted movement! It was an “aha moment”,for us in the class. Distorted vision refers to something not appearing straight, but bent, crooked or wavy, just as I experienced in the class with the others. Distortion of vision can herald the loss of vision, and when there is a loss of vision, a movement is restricted.

Take a moment, and apply this same experiment to your life,in which area have you been feeling uncomfortable, apprehensive,or unbalanced in the pursuit of your God- ordained purpose?could it be that you have been wearing the wrong set of glasses? running your life based on someone else’ idea, Family or Society? Is there a mismatch in your calling?why are you feeling lost in that relationship? are you wrongly placed,in your job or career, because you’ve been wearing the vision enhancer for “somebody else? It’s time to get your life back,it time to gain CLARITY in order to live your full potentials here on earth.

The lamp of the body is the eye. Therefore when your eye is good, your whole body also is full of light. But when your eye is bad, your whole body is full of darkness.”-Jesus Christ.

“If you are clear with what you want, the world responds with clarity”-Loretta Staples.

Ophthalmologists will advise that anyone with distorted vision should seek medical attention. If you are experiencing distortion of vision  in your journey of life.I want to encourage you,it is not too late to redirect your steps back to your Creator.God,the one who has the blueprint  for your life.Ask and he will give you the wisdom to lead your life, not according to Society,Status quo,or people’s opinion. But according to his original design for your life.

TIPS FOR GAINING CLARITY: Assume total responsibility for your life’s purpose. Clarity is a decision. To gain clarity for your life:

*Seek God first-He knows you more than you think, and without him, you can do nothing.

*Think about what you want and write them down.”Write the vision. And make it plain on tablets”….Hab2:2.The clearer you are, about what you want, the easier it will be to make it happen.

*Identify action steps, and work them out.

*Gain new perspectives. After discovering that you have been operating with distorted vision, what can you learn from the mistakes and failures? Turn the mistakes to milestones for your maximum potentials.

Singer/Songwriter,Johnny Nash, wrote this song in 1972, “I can see clearly now,the rain is gone….. It’s time for you to step into that level of maximum impact and influence with CLARITY OF PURPOSE,in every area of your life.

To your success!

Handling The Emotional Pain Of Rejection.

10359-child-floor-sad-trendingLet’s face it,life is never fair, Reminds me of the line in MaryMary’s song,”….nobody told me that the road will be easy, and I don’t believe he’s brought me this far to leave me. The scripture says,In this world we will experience troubles, difficulties, but Christ gave the assurance to be of good cheer because he has overcome the world. One of the many things that Christ has overcome for us is REJECTION! He was rejected also(Isa53:3).

Everyone will experience rejection, one way or another at different seasons of life.Someone reading this write up may be suffering from the pain at the moment, the beauty and the joy is that we can always overcome it,no matter how hurt, wounded and shattered the pain may have caused us. I suffered from this emotional pain for most of my life, and didn’t know that it was still there until very recently! I was once asked the question,”What do you want?So many things flooded my mind regarding what i wanted, and for a long time I kept meditating on that question. Finally I gave my answer. I wanted to be Free!!.

Hmmn! free from what? I wanted to be free from pain, discomfort, free from limiting beliefs etc.It was then it dawn on me that I had been carrying a huge baggage of the pain of rejection right from my childhood. As I sat among these friends of mine,my childhood days  began to play out back at me. I began to share things I never knew were still buried in my heart. As I poured out my heart,I knew the hour of healing had come for me,and here I am to share some of the results of the healing that is still on going. I hope someone will be healed by reading this!

As a young child growing up,I believed my parents preferred my other siblings to me,and that belief system affected me so much that it was as if I was constantly trying to prove  a point to people one way or another. You see when we don’t deal with our baggages, they will always interfere with whatever new situation we find ourselves in. More often than not,the pain we carry into new situation is the pain of failure  from the past when we don’t let those pain go,they hinder us from attaining to new heights.I am on the verge of a new horizon and I found out that I may never be able to go far, if I don’t rid off the pain of Rejection.

Why does rejection wound us so deeply?Why does it hurt so bad that sometimes you feel like you are choking. It is because it attacks the very person that we are ,destroying our self -esteem.Many people who have faced rejection grow up with unresolved emotional wounds.These emotional wounds begin to show up our personality, most of the time we don’t realise that they are fruits of what we’ve suffered or we are still dealing with. Some of these Fruits show up through the following;

*Seeking for acceptance: Trying to seek for, and get approval from Parents,Spouse,Boss,Colleagues, as such going to any length to get what has already been given. The older brother of the prodigal son in the Scriptures buttress this.He felt rejected and unloved when he saw how their Father celebrated the lost Son.I always felt like that as the first child, and never got the attention I wanted( so I thought).

*Opinionated personality : Always conceitedly assertive about yourviews, beliefs, always having the desire to be right about things.People who suffer rejection are often obstinate and  very stubborn. I remember I used to be very stubborn and opinionated while growing.I believe I still am,in some areas.I am still, “Work  in progress!

*Performance orientation; The  constant tendency to fall back  into striving by human effort. It is an attitude of acceptance of lies about us,built into our nature from infancy. A compulsive need for approval, like we call around here, “I shant gree” attitude which cause striving for attention through fear and tension. Because of the need for acceptance and approval, we begin to put up a “Show” which in itself  does not define who we are. All of these fruits or traits indicates that the issue of rejection is an Identity Problem.

It is very possible to overcome rejection, even though many of us have scars and wounds from the past that leaves us reeling. Healing is available and I can tell you that it may not be immediately, but If you commit to the process like I have ,you will become a better person for it. One of the crucial step to the healing of the emotional pain is to know and understand  that God never forsakes his own.

*King David the famous psalmist rightly said it in one of his writings,” When my father and mother forsakes me,Then the LORD will take care of me. (Psalm 27:10) .I am sure he wrote this when he was in one of the lowest point of his life. Bringing our relationship with God into proper perspective is an important step to overcoming the stronghold of rejection. I love these songs from Israel Houghton and the New breed, ” He knows my name, and “I am not forgotten!. SEE YOURSELF AS GOD SEES YOU.Remember, He will never forsake you!.

*MEDITATION ON GOD’S WORD: Constant meditation on what God’s word says about you,is another vital factor to the healing  process, surrounding yourself with positive and affirmative words ..because there is power in spoken words so you need to meditate and as you do so,you begin to speak those words over you.

*EXCHANGE NEGATIVE THOUGHTS WITH POSITIVE:There is  a direct correlation between the mind, the body and your physical wellbeing.

The poet John Milton wrote,The mind is its own place, and it itself can make a heav’n of hell,a hell of heav’n.

In otherwords as a man thinketh so is he.As human being we are constantly in battle with what goes on in our minds.Everytime negative thoughts, and every whisper inadequacy wants to set in,substitute such with everything beautiful. Whatever things are true ,whatever things are noble, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report…think on these things.

*KEEP MOVING FORWARD:Keep on, keeping on. Rejection is not a measure of your true worth, shift your focus to God’s acceptance of you, because sometimes we make ourselves unhappy by envisioning the change that won’t happen, your mother may never be a warm loving person, your father may never tell you verbally that he loves you, your boss may never show you he/she appreciate your effort, your children may never tell you they appreciate you etc.Let the change begins with you.Never give the person or persons  who rejects you the permission to put a price-tag on you. Your value is in God. You are his treasured possession don’t let anybody tell you otherwise.

As you are healing and becoming a better You,Always put yourself in a position to help   others to heal.Offering God’s unconditional love and acceptance!.

Comforting others with the comfort that you have received. Let this mind be in you….
