Are you are in a Band? Check this out.

After so many writes and rewrites, and all my drafts disappearing from my system,in the last week. I am super excited that I got this one  finally! phew”. Hello Musicians and Creative artist welcome to MondayMusic&Me blogpost. I will focusing on Band membership-Roles and Responsiblities.

Being in a band is really a great experience for me as a performing musician and minister. I have been blessed by the gifts and talents of the great musicians and singers I have been fortunate to work with and I am still working with. but sometimes it can really be nerve wrecking working with different people.

Don’t get me wrong, with every organization, community, family you will always find a mixture of every temperament. A band is a unique and complex relationship with many different personalities and goals among band members.

In over a decade or more of being a live performer within and outside of the church, I have come across musicians who are dynamic in the crafts and also in relational issues. Things can be tricky at times, while some are direct, some are passive while others are more organised. A band is inevitably a dysfunctional yet hopefully a loving family! Dysfunctional in the sense that there are all kinds of people, some from outer space(laughing-out-loud) who are bound together by the love for music.

When you are creating music, performing, rehearsing with people regularly it is important to know that there are roles and responsibilities that must be put into practice and when each band member understands and develops his or her roles, collectively the band connects more with the audience. The better the connection with the audience, the better for everyone .

My school of thought about the roles with each band member is as a result of the experience of running a team of musicians over the here we go.

*The Front Person- He or She is the main focus of the band ,people at you more than anyone else in the show,if you are the front person. As a result it is pertinent that a front person must have certain qualities ;Passionate,Spontaneous, Engaging and exciting to watch no matter the genre of music.

You may not be involved in the business of the band, you not even get to write the songs, but one thing is that as a front person you are the focal point-with your voice or vis-a-vis your musical instrument. You must be able to connect with the team and with the people/audience.

*The Lead Guitar-You are not the main focus of the band, however when it comes to solos, you are the main dude, don’t overdo it. I have come across many lead guitarist who like to show off their musical dexterity as a result tend to steal he sow or overshadow the rest of the band. You must understand as alead guitarist that you are an “enhancer”with your instrument avoid getting too carried away by the show-off. The spirits of the prophets are controlled by the prophets.

I will dwell more on the other members and their roles in the next post, right now I need to go rest me head :).

To your music success,

One Year …Already!

4_hh_turningone_july2014Caught in the middle of preparations for my baby brother’s wedding, just recuperating and getting back on my feet after missing several days from blogging. etc. I just got to check my mail and WordPress had sent me an anniversary badge to celebrate 1 year.

Wow, how time flies! looking back now I can sincerely say that I have seen growth in my writing. I remember at one time when I started writing ,I tried to send my draft to one of coaches ,but I couldn’t and went ahead and published. when she finally got to read through the published article, she gave me her feedback. I took her criticism calmly, well …so I guessed.

Whether I took the criticism calmly or not, is story for another day.But it helped me. Instead of seeking for validation for my writing from people I learnt from this blogosphere that it really don’t matter, what matters is to keep writing and keep writing and keep writing!.

I have gone from writing 1 post per week to writing everyday. The ability to express my thoughts on paper has really been so invigorating and refreshing, and the relationship that I have formed with great minds on this platform has been one of the best memoirs of 2015. I have so much to be grateful for because blogging has opened my eyes and heart to new opportunities, fresh perspectives and as helped me to be open-minded.

I will never get tired of  saying THANK YOU  over and over again,

THANK YOU LORD,MY SAVIOR for the gift of pen and paper, for a medium like where I am gradually finding my voice to really and truly be your oracle! let my writing and posts glorify you always and let it also be a BLESSING to the wonderful readers and audience all over the world.

Thank you to all my blogger friends, each one of you have made a huge impact in my life as a writer, gracias! bien merci, adupe, dalu, nagode etc. I got nothing but love for y’all [winks, hugs, and a big smile].

I need to stop right now, my back still hurts like …what!!!!

O give thanks unto the LORD for he is good.

Let Us Pray

Weekend is always the busiest days of the week for me because of the nature of what I do. I guess you already know by now :-). This weekend was not the same as the last one. I got an invite to come speak at a women’conference somewhere outside Lagos.

I am always excited when I get such invites as a speaker, in the midst of the excitement however,I also have this fear, and anxiety that seldom want to cripple me. I hear this other voice saying,” what do you know about stuffs that you want to talk to other?” but I try as much as possible not to allow the “voice” get the best of me,by focusing and relying on the grace and the opportunity that God has orchestrated to be his “mouthpiece”.

The theme of the Women Conference was centred on the significance and impact when women pray, what a broad topic to talk about.

Prayer is one discipline or lifestyle that cannot be overemphasised in the life of a christian. It is an essential part of our christian life. Like the song we use to sing in our local assemblies in the part of the world,Prayer is the master key that unlocks heaven’s intent in the earth realm.

Let us pray!  This is an invitation for communion with God  and with others. It is a charge,an admonition,an instruction to come together and exercise our creative power and energy to birth realities in our immediate environment.

For where two or three are gathered together in my name, there am I in the midst of them”.

When people pray together great things happen. There are instances of the formidable power of collective prayers all through the pages of scriptures and even in the present day,I have witnessed the power at work in the place of prevailing prayers in my life.

When  women pray the unimaginable happens, both the male and female have spiritual equalities, but a female is more emotional than the male because of the intrincasies of her fabrication and being. There is this beautiful structuring of the womansh that gives her the ability to nuture, enhance, reflect and moreso carry burden in her heart over time. and when she is moved this endowment enables her to give her all even in the prayet closet, without holding anything back- The woman is a an absolute example of “naked and not ashamed” on her knees!.

When more than one or two women pray together there is a heavenly connection that ties hearts and hands together in unity. There is something liberating about coming together to pray as men and women as we gather together we are united on mulitple levels.

Prayer is the gift given to man to touch heaven and pull down blessings,it is intimacy the communication of the deepest level of our souls and hearts in tuned with God and with one another-thats where the gift of “koinonia” fellowship thrives.

When we are united by the bond of God’s presence  we experience the miracle working power of God in the moments of submission.

The Language of Prayer.

The art of praying together as women or men will have significant and eternal impact when we understand the language of prayer. when Love is the foundation of our communion with God and grace becomes the platform we will not give room for the trappings of shallow relationships which threatens to break our wall of fellowship.

If I speak with in the tongues of men or of angels  but do not have love,if I have the gift of prophesy and can fathom all mysteries and all knowledge,…..but do not have love….I gain nothing. 1 Cor 13(paraphrased).

We come together in prayers and agreement to see the glory of the Father in one another, and also to please the Father because he takes delight in our fellowship with one another. when women come togeher to pray to share burdens together it is not the time to gossip about each other or the time to turn the prayer request into topic for discussion instead we come together to bear burdens as sister-sister comforting one another.

I tell you that we women go through a  lot of challenges on a daily basis, and it is such an awesome relief when we know that we got sisters holding the fold for us.The potent power of the woman is evident in the place of sweet communion the Father and with one another.

A Woman Called Moses.

A woman called Moses, was a television miniseries way back in the late 70’s .It was about the life of an African American slave,Harriet Tubman played by Cicely Tyson.

Harriet escaped slavery  and she help organised Undergeound Railroads for dozens of other enslaved african american both in the Southern and Northern part of the United States and even Canada.

Watching this miniseries back then, struck a strong chord in me about how a woman can be determined and tenacious in her pursuit of whatever she wants for the greater good of all. I fell in love with the character of Cicely, and even fantasized about playing that role someday!

A woman called Moses, was a story of deliverance from Slavery and the menace of Segregation and Oppression.Typical of the story of Moses, the deliverer of the Children of Israel.I believe thats why the TV series was called,A Woman Called Moses.

In response to Daily Post, writing prompt, Tell us about afavourite character from film, theater,or literature with whom you will like to have a heart-to-heart- what would you talk about?

42 more! counting down

Its 42 days,12hours,17minutes and some microseconds to the end of this great year 2015. It has been a spectacular year so far. I am grateful for the gift of life. I remember as the year began in January I had so many expectations and dreams.

There were 2 significant questions I had to ask myself to keep me in focus in2015;

What will I do differently in 2015? and What is at stake for me in 2015?

The year has been great so far,I still have certain things at stake.

I want to see my album project completed before 2015 bids goodbye.

I hope to see a greater acceptance of my new christmas Ep as it is released in the coming week hopefully!!

Now that I have started writing again thanks to the world of blogging and wordpress. I  hope like to pick up on the draft of my second book and start working on it. I didn’t want to do anything until I finish the album project .

I hope to spend time away with the Men in my life during the Holidays-God we do need a time-out, outside of town!!.

I have also seen the level of growth with respect to my writing skill and blogging. I hope to do more as the days roll by-I hope to make new friends as well.

I hope and pray that God who in his infinite mercies brought ua thus far, will keep us whole and intact-Nothing missing, nothing broken till the end of the year and into the new year. Amen.

NabloPoMo November20th.

What do you hope to happen by the end of this year?
