In response to The Daily Post’s writing prompt: “An Odd Trio.”
It was one of those usual afternoon for Adesola, she and her friends from the office will usually go out to a small restaurant just a few blocks from the office building. It was one of their favourite joints.
Ekaete peppersoup joint has been known around the area for the best of soups and stews and other Nigerian cuisines,on a daily basis you will find people trooping in, as it was situated in the very heart of the highbrow streets of Lasgidi. People troop in everyday either to ‘eat-in’ or do ‘take-aways’.
Na wa o stella, na only God know de kain thing wey this people dey put inside their food’ said Adesola. Stella was trying to get her purse from her bag not really paying attention to Adesola.
“I really don’t know she replied, and right now I couldn’t be bothered, I just want to eat and get back to the office’. She shrugs.
They moved into the restaurant quickly in order to get in the line for the food they wanted to eat, there was always a long line for every delicacies served at this particular place. There was a line that really caught desola’s eyes. It was the longest queue in there, and those on the line were mostly executives. you could tell by the way they all dressed. They were mostly men.
Desola looked at Stella with her suspicious look and said, “I am sure there is something fishy about this place”.
Stella replied, “If you no wan eat abeg comot for here”.
Suddenly there was a loud scream from one of the guys on the long line, “I am tired of this waiting o, where is my “ekaete pepper soup” I wan comot for here. Everyone’s attention was now on this chubby looking pot-bellied young man.
“Why are you all staring at me, he said.
Someone behind him responded, “guy, you no suppose shout like that, you almost gave us a heart attack.
Heart attack ke? on top wetin?,the chubby guy replied.
My guy, na because of the cat pepper soup wey you wan eat ?
What?? exclaimed everyone else in the restaurant. Cat? At this point, the queue began to gradually dissolve as people began to leave the restaurant in bewilderedness.
At this point,The suspisions of Adesola were confirmed,as she has always thought that the owners of the restaurant were involved in “juju” to draw people to the restaurant.
It so happened that the restaurant owners use cats to make bowls of soup and always served each table with colourful beach towel.
