Dear God! What do you want from me?

More often than not, men have spoken about divine expectation from the angle of man’s perspectives, that it usually rare and scarce to hear people discuss this same “Divine expectations” from God’s perspectives.

Sometimes we make it seem as if God does not have expectations, or that he doesn’t need anything from us. Especially in this age of the Church when the focus is always on ‘gimme this, gimme that’.  we tend to forget that God also has needs!

Every relationship is two-way or better put, To every covenant relationships, there are rights and responsibilities.

Instead of always going to ask Him to do this, or do that for us, can we just take a moment and switch gears, and just imagine that the Almighty God is now in your place. What do you think God will be asking from you?

These are my thought line, as I tried to switch gear and view divine expectations… from God’s viewpoint;

Dear God, what do you want from me?

*Intimacy with God- God desires to have intimacy with us. He wants to be more intimate with each and every one of his children because that’s one of the primary purposes of creation-Intimacy. we saw that played out in Genesis as the scripture recalls that God will go and meet Adam and Eve in the cool of the day to fellowship with them. Another example is Abraham- who was regarded as the friend of God.  Can you imagine God trying to execute a plan, and he couldn’t carry it, not until He and Abraham had discussed it. Amos 3:7 states it like this,

Surely the Sovereign does nothing without revealing his plan to his servant.

That the Kind of intimacy, I long for with God. Wouldn’t it be awesome having that kind of intimacy and friendship with the Lord where he tells you deep things and simple things, where you both rub minds together of matters!  God desires that from you and I as well.

*God expects us to carry out his assignment- Every one of us has been given peculiar assignments directly from God and we have also been graced for that assignment.

Every one of us in this part of eternity present has been given gifts and abilities peculiar to our personality, it is therefore expected that we will discover those gifts and make use of them  for the benefit and greater good of all.

When God gave Moses the blueprint and the task of building the tabernacle, He told Moses about two men that He had endowed and graced with the abilities to help Moses realize and actualize the vision.

Those Men were Bezalel and Oholiab  Exo 31:1-end. For every purpose and intent in the heart of God for humanity, He has embedded the capacity to carry it out in man!

*Total and Complete Obedience– Obeying God is the best way for the man to truly experience prosperity, I don’t mean prospering in finances or material things alone, but enjoying all round bliss spirit, soul, and body.

Joshua 1:8 reiterates it

Keep this book of the Law always on your lips;meditate on it day and night,so that you may be careful to do everything written in it. Then you will be prosperous and successful.

True prosperity is experienced when we pay obeisance to God’s word!

*God wants us to prosper! -3 John2

I wish above all things that you prosper and be in health, even as your soul prospers.

The ultimate of God for his children is that we enjoy life to its fullest in accordance with his will. what more can a Father desire for his Children?

*Ascribe all the glory to God- Our heavenly father wants to receive the glory and compliments for everything and anything he does for us and everything He is doing for us. Because we know that we can not be sustained by our own might, He wants us to always ascribe that glory to him, He will never share his glory with anyone.

Remember the case of the Babylonian king, who tried  it by calling himself God, Nebuchadnezzar, what became of him afterward. For seven years his sense was like that of an animal until he acknowledge God Most High as the Sovereign GOD.

In all our achievements and the trophies that life may present us, God wants us to acknowledge at all times that it couldn’t have been without His help. I try as much as possible to be conscious of this, at any given opportunity to minister to people through my music.

You know when people tell you how wonderful your talent is, how great your song is, how beautiful you are etcetera,  we are easily swayed with those beautiful compliments that when you are not careful, you begin to feel you are “all that”

* God wants us to take care of the needy among us-We have people around us who are greatly in need of the love, care, support that we can give. God expects that in any way possible you and I will be an extension of his hands towards those around us. That is true religion as the book of James puts it.

*Heart of Gratitude- Gratitude is the best attitude, the heart of thankfulness at all times, is one of God’s expectations from man.  “In everything give thanks”.

In the best of times, in the worst of times, whether hungry or having plenty, in all kinds of circumstance, God wants us to be grateful.

*God wants to have a radical faith-  Check through bible history up to these present times, Individuals who have made remarkable differences in their lives and circumstances are those who have stepped out of the comfort zone to dare the “Impossible”.

There are examples of People like Moses stretching the rod into the red sea situation, and the seas gave way, what about Esther’s radicalism, and doggedness to enter into the king’s palace without invitation, the woman with the issue of blood against all odds pressed in on the Lord.

It was recorded that in the days of John Wesley, he was willing to give up  everything for the sake of his land. His popular prayer line was,” Give me Scotland, or I’ll die”.

When we exercise such die-hard disposition towards the challenges we are facing, it like, ‘facing your fear, fearless!

It is only then, that we truly show that we  know what God wants and expect from his own children, it is one thing to know his expectations and it another thing to give all that he expects from us just as we also expect certain things from Him!

Shalom!

  2. I love the story of Esther and her faithfulness to help her people. I think we all need to remember to ask God – “What is your will for me today?” and give thanks for all our blessings before we even ask of our wants or needs. Great share. 🙂
