Commitment precedes resources.

Do you find the Old Testament books hard to read sometimes? I do! My favourites books in the Old testaments are the Psalms, Proverbs and those other ones that are poetic in nature. I tend to read some of those a lot.

As a practice, I have a daily habit of reading 5 chapters of Psalms every day for the whole month and I repeat it month after month, I got this from Christian Artist  John Chisum who came to facilitate a seminar here in Lagos about 3 years ago. 5 psalms a day and in 30 days you would have finished the book of Psalms, and you can repeat the same pattern all year round. I THINK YOU SHOULD TRY IT.

So I am shiting gear to study the person of Ruth, the book of Ruth is quite short and the story is quite intriguing. I know that my posts in the coming week will have a bit of the “Ruth influence” in it.

I know you are familiar with the story of Ruth and Naomi, so I won’t really bore you with the long story, but there are divine principles that lurked with the chapters and verses of the phenomenal book, that can not be overlooked, these principles can be applied to our day to day living.

CHAPTER ONE IN A NUTSHELL. Ruth 1:1-22

Ms.Naomi and her husband and their two sons, went to a foreign land for greener pastures, while in the land of sojourn, the inevitable happened, The husband dies, the sons died, now Ms.Naomi is left with two women, who are now widows like her.

Well there is nothing to look forward to in this foreign land she might have thought to herself, so she decided to head back to her home country since the young women were daughters of the foreign land, it would be better they stay back and start life all over again, after all they are still young and beautiful, they can still remarry! As for mama Naomi,”aint nobody got time for that”.

The other lady, after much persuasion, decided to stay back in her home country, but Ms Ruth declined, she won’t stay back, she is going wherever mama Naomi wants to go!

She had lost her husband too, there was no reason for her to hang on to the family name again, especially when it is the mother in law suggesting that she finds her way to a much better life. She made a firm resolute to go where her mother in law goes, and whatever her mother in law does she was ready to do.

ruth and naomi 2

Little did she know that her commitment to stay will lead to all kinds of open doors not just for her, her mother in law and even many generations to come- The result of her commitment made her be in the lineage of the Messiah, who would have thought that a Moabitess, a complete stranger would end up being a great-grandmother to the saviour of mankind.

Commitment is one of the strongest keys to achieving any form of success, in life, in marriage, business, friendship, and all other feats in life. Without commitment, nothing worthwhile and tangible can be achieved, when there is no commitment, there will be hesitations, uncertainty and doubts, but once you resolve to commit to a mission or task, things begin to fall in place.

I started writing a new book last year, but somewhere along the line I lost the book about halfway into finishing the first draft, it was as if I wanted my whole world collapsed. where would I start from? I wanted to give up on it, but the passion burning my heart wouldn’t let me. so I made a commitment to start all over again, As soon as I resolved that, doors started opening, I enrolled in writing classes, got a mentor to help me with accountability and now, the writing is even much better than what I had lost initially, I also learned how to keep my writings against any kind of loss.

The key is to commit –Commitment- the moment you commit, God moves on your behalf and a whole streams of events begin to flow to your advantage, Just like it happened for Ruth.

All manner of unforeseen events, incidents, meetings, people and material assistance that you never thought could happen -begin to occur, when you commit yourself totally and unreservedly.

Prayer Is

Lately, I have recognised that there is a void!

I have found out that when I go off, for long, encumbered with the cares of life, without really touching base with God in real communion, I get to a point where everything begins to choke out the life of me. You see it is very easy to get clustered up in activities going through the motion day in, day out without realising that nurturing your one-on-one union with the Father – is the real essence of life.

I have also discovered a pattern, it is the fact that when I fall sick, and I seldom do, it is an indication that something is amiss,  which is my fellowship with God through the Holy Spirit.I am not trying to be seen as “spiritual” or “holier than thou”, it’s just that I am gradually becoming comfortable letting the ink bleed on paper concerning the different aspect of my life, so by writing about me, the good, the bad, the in-between I am coming to terms with me and my fears, doubts, beliefs and by that I can mirror same for someone out there who is reading this.

The desire to spend quality time in prayer has given way to worry and despondency, and it seems the weight of the whole is on my shoulder. In the last few days that I have had to shut out myself to rest awhile, In resting and struggling to study the scriptures, I have found solace in just whispering my heartsong to God to get back in sync with my communications with him.

Early yesterday morning as I was getting the baby ready for the day, I started a conversation with God, it wasn’t the usual “Christianese conversation where we quote all the bible verses. as if God does not know His word. I was just pouring my heart out to the lover of my soul, the One who loves me regardless. I saw the look on my 7month old baby, as he watched my gesticulations, I think he sensed what was going on at that point in time. after a few moments of up-close-and-personal, no- holds- barred conversation I felt this peace and satisfaction.

It was as if I heard Him say, “this is the kind of conversation I want to have with you girl, where you are just you, with no cloak on, no pretence. No wish list, do this, do that, I want this, I want that. Then I realised yet again,

Prayer Is

An act of letting go, not a wish list, because God already knows what your needs are. He knows your name, He sees your fears, He knows that which keeps you up late at night, and what startles you early in the morning.

It is an outpouring, an outflow of the innate desire to be close to God. Like the Bethel Music song, which goes like this- Just to close to you, just to walk next to you, this is my one thing, Lord you are my one thing.

It takes the burden of life off our tiny shoulders and put it on His much bigger shoulders- Remember the songwriter say, if He carried the weight of the world upon His shoulders, I know my brother/sister that He will carry you.

Everyone Prays, I know that! And I’m not here to debate about religion either. My point of view is that Prayer is not and should not be because of religion which is the opium of men to an “unknown god”

But a lifestyle born out of a relationship with the Father of Life through His Son Jesus, a lifestyle that is empowered by the Holy Spirit.

Do you know the Father? Do you have a relationship with Him through His Only-begotten, Son Jesus Christ?

Monday Motivation.

It’s another beautiful Monday, by the way I love Monday’s because it is the only day of the week where I get to set out of my house as early as 5AM to go share my passion with a group of professionals who love to start off their working week with a little dose of thanksgiving and adoration to the holder of the Universe.

But today was rather different, I struggled out of bed early this morning because all my bones were aching, it was as if I had carried tons of bricks, Taking a shower was almost impossible as I felt so cold as the water touched my skin.

Maybe I should just put a call through that I wouldn’t be able to make the meeting, I don’t see how I’m, going to drive myself all the way to town in the wee hour of the morning, which is also the rush hour for Lagosians. I will be fine, I told myself. I drove myself down and we had a great time fellowshipping and encouraging one another with psalms, hymns and spiritual songs.

One of the Psalms that jolted me out of my drowsiness was in Psalms 37;8bpsalms 37

The last sentence of the scripture is what popped out to me like never before, “do not fret -it only causes harm. How many times have I fretted over nothing, got my adrenalin boiling for one reason or the other, and at the end of the day, the situation didn’t change because of my fret?

A lot of us go through life moping over circumstances that are beyond us, feeling uneasy because of the opinions of men, constantly and visibly anxious over family, worrying about anything and everything to the point that it affects our physical, mental and spiritual well being. All the fussing and worrying ends up not changing a thing.

When I saw this last part of the passage I knew that it was for me, and I knew I had to do something about my many frets and worries especially with my children. As I read the line over and over to myself I found out that what my fretting does is that it tends to exaggerate the enormity of the present situation over the faithfulness of God. it was like God telling mean that every time I worry about anything, I make that the thing bigger than Who He is to me and as a result our relationship is affected.

Fretting affects our relationship with God, it also affects our relationship with others, especially people in our immediate environment and space. we are over-focused on the bad situation that we forget God’s faithfulness, and are overfocused on the not-so-right-things that our spouses or children do that we forget that having them around is a reminder of God’s blessings to us.

Remember I mention that fretting affects us bodily, mentally and all other allies. It is believed that 80percent of the physical disease has a spiritual root, so how do we avoid fretting?

The same Psalm 37 provides us with a way out of fretting and eating our hearts out for any situation or circumstances. We must get our focus off the negatives and consciously be mindful of all the goodness of God that surrounds us, within and without. Whatever you focus on, you give power to.  When we focus on the beauty of God around us, we make all other concerns little. we learn to trust GOD, Which is actually the remedy for fretting: trusting God, committing our ways to him, and acknowledging him no matter how mundane or how great the circumstances may be.

As we learn to trust, lean and depend on Him, he gives us the peace and calmness to go through the eye of the storm without fear or frets.

So,

DO NOT FRET, IT ONLY CAUSES HARM.

You have a way with words.

Hello beautiful people, welcome to a new week. A fresh opportunity t start again, try again, it’s an unfolding of new opportunities today. This week is quite loaded for me, and I am so excited about the great unfoldings that God has in store for me.

Earlier today, I shared something on my Instagram page like I do every morning, the summary of my Monday motivation is centered on the power of our words. I know you will agree with me that the words that we speak have the ability to make or mar, to build or demolish, to unify or to cause disunity.

Words have the power to change an individual, group and even a nation. And from the pages of the Bible, we know that the universe we are in was framed by words… In the beginning was the word, and that word has been given to humanity to create and recreate…

At every given moment in our daily life, we are using words to convey and to express. Research shows that the average woman uses about 5000 words per day, while the average man uses about 2000 words. In every sphere of life, we use words!

How much of those words do we channel rightly? How much of those words do we use positively?

1pet310

Words truly have the power to turn things around and you should use them for good, you should use words to inspire others and add value to people’s lives.

As a musician and writer, the use of words is one of my main tools to live a life of purpose. As a woman/wife/mother, the words that I speak go a long way to shape the kind of dynamics in my home and in my family, so it becomes a deliberate and intentional effort for me make sure that my words are seasoned with grace to build up or to inspire the hearer. This is where the real work is.

It is so easy to forget the power of our words as we use them day in, and day out and sometimes our tongues leaves us in great regret if we don’t use them wisely. I was meditating on the book of Matthew 27-How Jesus was handed over to Pontius Pilate. It was rather saddening to hear the people respond to Pilate the Governor, after so much debate about crucifying Christ, Matthew 27:25

And all the people answered and said, His blood be on us and on our children.

This statement is too heavy and not only that it was also transgenerational, at that moment they didn’t know the gravity of the words they’ve just uttered because they were in the heat of the moment. They used their words to pronounce a curse on themselves and even on their unborn innocent children.

How can I be conscious of the words I speak?

From the pages of scriptures, there are many verses on the wise use of words, I will like to share  one or two and try to break it down into bits

1 Peter 3: 10 -Message Bible

Whoever wants to embrace life and see the day fill up with good, here’s what you do: say nothing evil or hurtful.

We all want to enjoy life to the full, see our daily lives filled with joy and happiness, all these can be experienced if we become intentional about the words that flow out from our mouth…  say nothing evil or hurtful

Remember, You have a way with words…

A living Prophesy .

Hello Women all around the blogosphere, it’s another Wednesday for celebrating Womanhood (CWW) Celebrating Womanhood Wednesday. I know it’s been a very long time, like a year or more since I wrote anything on womanhood. Well, let’s just say life happened.

celebrating womanhood

Woohoo!! I am back here again, and I am super excited about great things that will unravel as we journey together on this platform, celebrating us as women who are God’s original design to influence our world.

The other day I was at a women’s fellowship, where women from all works of life gather together every other month to learn at God’s feet- A Teaching ministry for women. After the meeting, it was time for networking, meet and greet. I finally met someone, whom I had connected with via the social media, for the first and she gave me a book.  I started reading the book about two days ago, oh my word, it’s such a loaded gem.

I can boldly say that it’s what I am supposed to be reading at this point in my life and at this season. which brings me to the topic of discussion tonight.

Our lives as women are not happenstance, I mean, everything that happens is as a result of a calculated sequence of experience leading up to one another, so that God’s holy and perfect plans for our lives can be accomplished.

If I had not attended that meeting, I would have missed an opportunity to make a new friend, and it wasn’t just making a new friend that I would be gifted with a tool that is very necessary to my next level. That fellowship of women from different backgrounds and social status was put together to help women realize that we are not a bunch of meaning statistics in an overcrowded and competitive world, but that each woman has been endowed with great capacities and capabilities to blaze trails in whatever area she desires.

That is the way we have all been divinely wired, there are series of prophecies wrapped around every woman and daily in our everyday life we play out the scripts that were written by God himself. let’s check the scriptures: Heb10: 5-6,

Sacrifice and offering you did not desire, but a body You have prepared for me……… then, I said, Behold, I have come- in the volume of the book it is written of me—to do your will, O God.

This is one of my best personal scriptures, it connotes the fact that our lives here had been carefully scripted by God -The author of life Himself.

To the woman reading this post I dare say that you are a living prophecy, and God your father is catalyzing the occurrence of everything that He has ordained from before you were formed in your mother’s womb, so stop living life without purpose and start living with deliberateness and intentionality because you are not an afterthought, you are not a mistake, You are womb-man, with eternal deposits to change the world.

It is time to start living out every  positive spoken word about you, it is time to live your life in readiness for the promptings to great achievement just like the women in the Bible, Deborah, Hannah, Rahab who despite her social status, readily aligned her life to God and became one of the ancestors in the lineage of the Messiah Christ.

It is no longer a function of what you’ve done in the past, or what you’ve been through, all of those experiences were designed to make you better and stronger- The best version of You.

Woman, you are loved and celebrated!

Contentment in an insatiable world #2.

This is a follow up to my post Contentment in an unsatiable world #1.

I sat down to do my usual morning routine which involves the meditational reading of the scriptures, and I happened to be reading the book of 1st Timothy 6:1- 21. As I read and meditated I couldn’t help the questions that kept coming to my mind.

How do you find contentment in a world like ours where there is so much craving for more of this and more and more of that?

How do you explain  your contentment without been seen as one without the drive to accumulate?

Godliness with contentment is great gain! #selah!

Contentment is a state of happiness and satisfaction when you think about all that you are grateful for, somehow you feel a sense of contentment, but you may not necessarily be happy, especially when you know that there is room for more and the capacity for “greater” has been imputed to you.

Therefore you are willing and ready to press further and further within the confines of your ethos and value system out of reverence and obedience to God,without harming or causing havoc for your fellow neughbours. I believe this is part of the central theme of this chapter in question.

Contentment isn’t so much of a kind of happy, I believe it is more about a peaceful ease of mind based on your compliance and faith in God, which makes you not to be envious or jealous of someone’ else journey, rather you celebrate them as you also celebrate yourself where you are, because you have a deeper understanding that the road map you have is completely different from others.

Despite the fact that you admire their achievements and trophies of the journey, it is not a do or die affair for you to want to live another man’s life or another man’s dream.

Here is my submission at the end of pondering and meditating;

Godliness with contentment is great gain… is more like enjoying who you are,and what you have,on your way to where you are going according to the blueprint and plan of God for your life.

Let this mind be in you as it was in Christ Jesus.
